Every piece starts on the wheel and is shaped, trimmed and finished by hand — which means no two are quite the same. I work mostly in stoneware, using warm, layered glazes: iron-rich browns pooling into cream, the odd deep black-blue, always left a little unpredictable — so opening the kiln is still the exciting part.
I make what I want to use myself: mugs with a good weight in the hand, tumblers for tea, coffee or matcha, bowls that earn a place on your table rather than a shelf.
Bisque-fired and waiting for glaze
“I picked up a cappuccino cup from Nigel B at Brighton Makers Market, and I love it! It's beautifully made, has a great weight in the hand, and that perfect handmade charm.”
Sold out for now

The maker
I'm Nigel - grew up in London, but Brighton's been home for thirty-odd years now (well, Hove actually). I used to run The Insight, a Brighton magazine, Nigel's Eco Store and School of the Wild before clay became a hobby - these days it's several evenings and weekends in the studio, and I can't quite stop.
I got into clay watching the Great Pottery Throw Down, and I've been a little obsessed ever since. I love experimenting with glazes, and making simple, functional things that look beautiful and are slightly imperfect in a way that reflects the handmade process. I'm also hooked by the bit nobody warns you about: the amount you don't control. The unexpected still gets me.
Every mug stamped with my name underneath is one I've thrown, trimmed, and glazed myself - start to finish.
